Due to suffering severe breathing problems Kawasaki Superbike Racing Team rider David Knight was forced to withdraw from the opening round of the 2010 Indoor Enduro World Cup having placed fourth at the end of the night's first final.
Confident of a great result at the first round of the IEWC series, and enjoying the chance to compete in front of his home fans, Knight's evening started well when he recorded the second fastest time during the timed practice session. Qualifying through into the main event thanks to a winning ride ahead of Dougie Lampkin and Joakim Ljunggren in his heat race, David made a great start to the first IEWC final. Banging bars at the front of the race during the opening two laps David went on to place an eventual fourth. Finding it hard to breath Knight had little option but to withdraw from the evening's proceedings.
David Knight: "I can't really explain how disappointed I am that things ended the way they did. I didn't feel geat during the practice session, and hadn't been feeling great all week. I just thought I had a cold, but I just couldn't breath durng the last two laps of the first final at Sheffield. I had a similar problem a few years back but tests didn't show that there was anythig wrong with me. I'm going to get checked out again and see what the doctors say. It's not every day a round of the Indoor Enduro World Championship comes to the UK, which makes this twice as disappointing. Hopefully, I can get it soreted and get back to practicing soon."
