GEICO EnduroCross points chase heats up at Denver this weekend - Taddy Blazusiak's still in control KTM's Blazusiak has a seemingly safe 24-point lead over Christini/KTM's Geoff Aaron - but crazy things can go down with a flick of the handlebars in GEICO EnduroCross!
ANAHEIM, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2009) - Denver's National Western Complex plays host to the fifth and penultimate round of GEICO AMA EnduroCross, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, this weekend (Oct. 24th) and all signs point to another classic indoor off-road shootout between a couple KTM-mounted riders, current series point leader Taddy Blazusiak and Christini/KTM's No. 2-ranked racer, Denver's own Geoff Aaron.
With Aaron riding a one-race winning streak into Denver - having topped out for the first time in his career at Columbus a few weeks ago - he'll also have the home field advantage in racing against Blazusiak as he's from nearby Bailey, Colo. Separated by 24 points (115-91) with two races remaining, the turning point of this year's championship - if there is to be one - could very come this Saturday in Denver.

"If Geoff rides the way he did at Columbus - and if Taddy were to make some sort of mistake or have a mechanical issue arise - the lead could very well change hands this weekend in Denver," said Mike Karsting VP of Events for Source Interlink Media. "The odds are surely in Taddy's favor, but GEICO EnduroCross tracks have a way of keeping the series tight all the way though the final main event at Las Vegas' Orleans Arena (Nov. 21)."
Joining Blazusiak and Aaron on the overall EX Pro Class podium through five events is Monster Energy/Kawasaki's Damon Huffman, who's returning to action after ten days of racing and travel while representing the United States at the 83rd International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) held in Portugal this past week. Huffman's teammate and fellow USA ISDE competitor, defending GEICO EnduroCross champion Ricky Dietrich has enjoyed some EnduroCross highlights this year, but is not figuring in the championship points chase due to an injury sustained at the Guthrie, Okla., EnduroCross.
Right on Huffman's boot heels, however, is current E3 Spark Plugs' EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship point leader Cory Graffunder (Husqvarna). Graffunder's only two points back of Huffman (73-71) heading into Denver for the third and final overall podium spot. Joining Graffunder on the overall E3 Spark Plugs' EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship podium thus far are Colton Haaker (68 points) and Kyle Redmond (56 points).
"Working in cooperation with the AMA, we've developed a classification program for pro EnduroCross racers ages 16 to 21 that builds a series-within-a-series to help elevate the status of our younger GEICO EnduroCross Series racers," added Karsting. "These racers will all compete for the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship and the AMA's No.1 plate that goes with it."
