Like the Oscars are to movie producers, movie stars and movie buffs, the Xtremey Awards are to action sports film producers and the world of off-road racing. To share a night with the men & women who've taken our sports to new levels was inspiring. This year the 2009 Impact Xtremey Awards was held at the Shark Club in Costa Mesa, CA.
Docy Andrews and Malcolm McCassy started the show off with presenters D-Mann and Aaron Colton handing out "Best Performance in a Sportbike Video" and "Best Freestyle Sportbike Video of the Year" both going to Throttle Trauma 2: Street Kings. Each award was handed out by two presenters, some of the presenters included Grant Langston, Joe Bonello, Micky Dymond, Heidi Steele, Cameron Steele, Sal Fish, Kenny Bartram, Ronnie Renner, and many more.
After Heidi Steele had presented the "Best Profile Video of the Year" for 199 Lives: The Travis Pastrana Story to Travis Pastrana & Godfrey Films, co-presenter Jim Ryan of Dirt Sports Magazine surprised Heidi with Dirt Sport's Driver of the Year award.
With RJ in the crowd, Bob Hannah teased him on-screen as Pipeline Digital Media took home "Best Vintage Video of the Year" with The Motocross Files: Bob Hannah.
Nathan Woods offered great advice in Offroad with Nathan Woods earning the film "Best Instructional Video of the Year," followed by The Destroyers which received "Best Theatrical Competition & Race Video of the Year." Last Man Standing was the last video standing for "Best Enduro/Off-Road Moto Video of the Year."
The show was not only filled with awards, the stage also hosted a short video of Eric Morely's kids protesting the CSPIA's mini bike ban. It was awesome and so true! If kids do not get a bike that properly fits them, the kids will not stop riding. They will go out and ride anything the kids can get their hands on -even if it's too big. Upon ending his presentation, everyone in the Shark Club signed protest letters that Eric & his wife supplied us with.
Docy and her girls, the Imps, entertained us when they stole the stage singing their version of Proud Mary.
There was a moment of silence and a tribute to the Jeremy Lusk. His wife, Lauren, was in the audience as well to pay honor to her late husband alongside friends of Jeremy's. Powerband Films' Jay Schweitzer put together a nice tribute video as well.
Dust to Glory's Marty Fiolka presented the Honorary Achievement Award to Supercross legend Ricky Johnson and a video piece dedicated to his life of racing.
As for freestyle MX, Kenny Bartram & Donnie Emler Jr. made the perfect presenters for "Best Freestyle MX Video of the Year" handing the award off to Crusty Demons of Dirt 14: A Bloodthirsty Saga & "Best MX Freestyle performance in a Video" which went to Travis Pastrana for Thrillbillies: Doublewide.
After the awards show, there was a raffle where Go Pro Hero helmet cams found the hands of the winning ticket holders. The Ketel One Vodka bar opened back up and the afterparty was in full force while The Adrian Tapia All Star Tribute Band was rocking out on the stage. As the night went on, the celebration continued until the break of dawn.
